DC Fire and EMS personnel were called shortly after 7 a.m. on Friday, April 21, to the 3200 block of Fort Lincoln Drive where there were reports of heavy smoke and a flames showing at Fort Lincoln Senior Village.
A second alarm was called at approximately 7:15 a.m. on Friday morning when fire crews removed their first victim from the 10-story building, who was rushed to Washington Hospital Center with serious injuries.
Others were also rescued from the building and escorted to safety, with at least one other hospitalized with undisclosed injuries.
In total it took approximately 20 units and 100 firefighters to get the fire declared under control, which it was at approximately 8:30 a.m. on Friday morning. Crews remained at the scene following the fire as they worked to make the building safe so residents can return to their homes.
The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation.
